Vegetation Clearing Supervision & Certification

Fauna pre-clearing surveys and clearing supervision services are often conditions for development consent, particularly in instances where vegetation clearance poses potential impacts on native animals or sensitive habitats. Pre-clearing surveys must be conducted by a suitably qualified ecologist and are a required step in the development process that ensures significant ecological features within a site are noted and conveyed to project managers and the operating aborist team.

Pre-clearance surveys help ensure that any unplanned impacts on ecological features are avoided, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and conditions of consent.

ESEA specialises in conducting pre-clearing inspection and supervision services. We make sure your construction programs are free from environmental risks, whilst allowing for a streamlined development process that avoids significant delays.

Pre-clearance Surveys

Preclearace surveys are an important task before vegetation removal commences within any development site. ESEA are experts at identifying and marking significant ecological elements, including any plants designated for removal or retention, potential fauna habitat, protected flora and fauna, and construction environmental no-go zones / works boundaries.

ESEA produces pre-clearance survey reports that can be provided to determining authorities. Our reports outline all of the findings of the pre-clearance surveys including:

  • Descriptions of the presence of threatened flora species, trees designated for retention/removal, and any environmental no-go zones.
  • Locations of potential habitat features marked during the preclearance surveys.
  • Recommended actions to avoid potential harm to fauna and fauna habitat during clearing works, including protocols for staged clearing of vegetation, and safe tree felling techniques.
  • Measures to avoid disturbance to surrounding vegetation during clearance works.
  • Measures to avoid the spread of weeds and pathogens.

Clearing Supervision

ESEA work to your construction timelines and can be present during your planned clearing works. During clearing supervision we:

  • Conduct final surveys for the presence of fauna within the works area.
  • Provide guidance and advice to the arborist team to ensure best-practise methods of tree removal are followed, including ensuring that environmental no-go zones are respected, only trees designated for removal are cleared, and appropriate weed management protocols are adhered to.
  • We record photographic evidence of the clearing works, providing evidence that the construction team as made all reasonable efforts to adhere to environmental legislation and best practises.
  • We identify the number of hollow-bearing trees removed, and calculate the number of nest boxes that may be required as compensation.

Clearing supervision often involves unexpected fauna encounters. ESEA are trained fauna spotter catchers and are experts at identifying and safeguarding native wildlife at risk from construction activities. We can capture and relocate any fauna injured as a result of construction works, and ensure all the necessary documentation is completed following such events.

Post-clearing Certification Letters

We produce detailed clearing certification reports that outline pre-clearance survey outcomes, any fauna rescue efforts, and any recorded fauna injuries, and the quantity and description of trees removed. These reports can be submitted to the determining authority to demonstrate transparency and accountability.
